DRUID vibrantly captures the essence of the modern Irish spirit. DRUID is a salute to their Irishness and to all who have kept this core and substance alive wherever they may dwell.
DRUID summons its audience along a musical journey, emerging from the haze of Ireland’s pre-Christian times, traveling the paths of oppression, famine, emigration, on to the “Celtic Tiger” economy, and finally resting on the hopes of the future. When he becomes trapped in Sand Cave and a rescue is attempted, Floyd and his community are catapulted into the public eye as a nationwide media circus descends. Composer/lyricist Adam Guettel merges musical theater style with folk and bluegrass, contrasting the unadorned lives of the Collins family with the brash intrusion of the world that suddenly envelops them.
