The History Center and the Waterfront District Association of Ithaca invite you to our first annual Rhiner Festival, a community celebration of the history of the West End/Waterfront area of Ithaca referenced to long ago as the Flats or the Rhine, and even Sodom.
The Jewel Heist
The festival centers upon the period in local history when Ithaca was a major hub of commerce in the region. Re-enacting a period dating from ca. 1860 to 1930, The History Center's Living History actors invite the public to participate in a mystery game centering around a jewel heist and a box of treasure hidden somewhere in the festival.
The person clever enough to find it first will win a very special prize relevant to the area in its contemporary form. Another lucky sleuth, who solves the secret to the mystery, will win a showpiece black diamond necklace from The Jewelbox. Designed by local jewelry designer Micky Roof, this necklace is being created exclusively for the festival.
